A bold striking logo with broad appeal yet still featuring the female symbol and an orange speech bubble conveying voice in this project.

Derby Speaks up is a project facilitated by the International Women’s Day Derby team; they sparked the idea with a series of events and an online hub to bring together local resources to enhance collective efforts to tackle misogyny in Derby.

The idea was to facilitate a collaborative space where local charities and groups tackling misogyny and gender-based violence could publish their materials, alongside community contributions, co-creating an evolving website which continues to grow.

Specialist knowledge and resources on addressing gender-based abuse have tended to be kept within institutions and limited to formally recognised ‘experts’, therefore this project aims to make the know-how available more widely, empowering everyday people to play their part.

Community workshops and dialogue also continue to develop content and amplify survivor voices in this space.

The initial proposal for this work was backed by funds from Derby City Council and made possible by grassroots volunteer power and we are grateful for this support. It has since grown with support from Rosa – the UK fund for women and girls via Voices From The Frontline Fund and fundraising by IWD Derby volunteers. The plan is to engage local organisations as content creators so that this space becomes a collectively curated resource library, fostering less competition and more collaboration among groups addressing the harmful rising misogyny in society.

The opportunity to design the logo, branding and website was advertised and 6pence Designs submitted the successful proposal to make it happen and we are grateful for the creative approach to bring the project to life.
